PhotoBox: Review and Competition
Quite often I see these new ideas for printing pictures and end up wondering if it will really look good or if it’s just a gimmick to draw people in and when it turns up – well it looks rather naff, so when I was offered the chance to try out PhotoBox’s Wood Photo Panel and Aluminium Photo Panel I jumped at the chance to get up close and personal with these different ideas and see if they really lived up to expectation.
Of course with the need to order 2 items, came the need for 2 pictures and there is no better 2 to be popped onto the front of these to give them a try than the terrible twosome of Dobby and Sock.
Wood Photo Panel
First up we have Dobby whose photo fitted perfectly onto the wood panel, the wood panel comes ready to stand upright and offers a contemporary look, with a natural sleek design. The picture itself is a high quality high gloss picture that really does pick out everything detail from the original photograph and makes the colours really stand out.
The design of the pictures make sure it can easily stand landscape or portrait and you can order your picture in one of 3 sizes, 2 of which are rectangular and the other square, with prices starting at just £14.99.
I am completely in love with the finished wooden design it feels sturdy and stands up well – I actually have it on the side of the mantel near some shelving so it does get the odd knock as we are getting things on and off and so far it has stood up to all we have thrown at it and the picture looks amazing win all around!
Aluminium Photo Panel
Sock is the star of my aluminium photo panel, this offers a more modern look than the wooden panel, with the picture printed onto a 2mm thick Chromaluxe aluminium making for a super slim look, the picture is then covered in a high gloss finish which again makes help the colours stand out.
The aluminium photo panel offers more size options than the wooden one allowing you to choose from 2 x rectangular sizes, 2 x square sizes and a panoramic view, with prices starting at £15.99. It comes in two pieces, with the stand needing to be stuck on by you once it arrives- I have to admit personally, I couldn’t get the stand to bend so I could attach it and ended up seeking help from my Dad, who also sanded it down a little, due to it being a little rough around the edges.
Personally if my Dad hadn’t been around to help I would have struggled with putting it together, other than that though I think it is a lovely piece – the aluminium for the thickness does feel sturdy, which surprised me as I assumed it would be somewhat flexible for some reason and as with the wood, one I think the colours look fantastic, meaning that even from the other side of the room the picture looks great.
Personally out of the two I think the wood one wins by a guineas whisker mainly due to the fiddle of getting the aluminium one together – but they both, most definitely exceed my expectations for them and really do offer a wonderful alternative way to display your pictures.
