There are many monthly beauty boxes out there at the moment, which thankfully offers everyone the chance to find something just right for them. I have to admit, although I had heard of Souk Souk, I had yet to try it, so when I was offered the chance to not only review one, but offer you lucky people the chance to win a few, I knew, I had to say yes.
So how does it work?
Souk Souk scouts the globe for small and niche brands that offer organic and natural products and with these they treat their customers. They offer a couple of different boxes, first is the little green beauty box, a monthly subscription box that costs £10 + P&P. The bespoke beauty box with a price tag of between £25 and £100 + P&P is specifically curated for the receiver, with each box containing full size and sample sized products. Lastly from time to time Souk Souk offer limited edition boxes, these boxes are often themed and the prices differ depending on content. Meaning no matter if you are looking for a one off, or a small treat each month, Souk Souk have something for you.
They kindly sent me a June box, which has gone down fantastically with customers so far to have a look at.
Mel Millis – Organic Neroli Hydrolate Mist Tonic RRP £15 for 30ml (10ml samples received).
This mist can be used both after cleansing and throughout the day to pep up your skin, Neroli is known for its rejuvenating and regenerative properties and can be used on any type of skin including sensitive and oily.
As well as Neroli this tonic includes rose, don't take my word on the scent at all, as for some reason although my skin loves rose, it really doesn't smell good on me at all and in true fashion this smelt awful on my skin and sadly started off as a strong fragrance, however it does wear off quite quickly. I'm sure for those where the orange scent shines through more it would offer a pleasant fragrance.
Personally I love popping mists in the fridge and giving them a nice spritz when I am getting warm and that is what I have been doing with this one and while I'm not so keen on the scent, I do look the cooling and calming affects it seems to offer.
Mel Mellis – Organic Phytonutri Neroli & Baobab Re Energising Face Oil RRP £35 for 50ml (10ml sample received).
Aimed at helping mature and lacklustre skin this oil contains ingredients such as Rosehip, pumpkin and Baobab oils alongside Neroli, Imortelle and Seabuckthorn. The oil allows for the skin to be revitalised and protected, as well as helping to reduce puffiness, it promotes collagen production and promote regeneration and strengthening of the epidermis.
The oil is best used by applying after cleansing and toning, to the face and neck, use enough to dampen the skin and then massage in, in a circular motion.
This offers quite a woody natural scent; it is a thicker oil than those I have used before, which actually seems to help with application. it does take a while to absorb into my skin, but once it has, it leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth and hydrated. While of course I cannot speak for long term effects, I can definitely see myself buying a full sized bottle in future.
I'm really impressed with both of these Mel Mellis products, I am definitely keen to try more of the range. Oh and I cannot leave you without highlighting the cardboard containers, they add that little extra for those who love a flower patch. Each package contains wildflower seeds, that when removed, can be planted and bring a touch of nature to your garden as well as your skin!
Yours Truly Organics Fix Me! Repairing Serum RRP £28 for 30ml (full size product received)
This serum is aimed at oily and blemish prone skin, it is aimed at helping soothe, repair and tighten the skin, while helping fight inflammation using sesame seed extract and saw palmetto. This product in particular has 97% of the ingredients from natural origin while 88% of the ingredients are from organic farming.
The scent of this serum is a lovely citrus delight, it offers a cloudy looking oil, which surprised me at first, sadly with using the other face products I haven't got around to really using this serum, however I will try and do a full review once I have been using it for a while as I really do hope this helps out my blemish prone skin.
FoM – Antioxidant Facial Mask RRP £21 for 50g (sample size 5g)
Offering a pure herbal blend to can your skin look clearer, brighter and younger, it is sad to help target age spots, reduce the appearance of fine lines – it has a detoxifying and exfoliating effect that can absorb impurities and reduce the size of pores, helping towards a brighter, glowing skin.
The facial mask is suitable for all skin types and includes ingredients such as chamomile, lavender, olive leaf, vitamin c and rosehip.
This mask comes as a powder, to use you just need to mix with water until it forms a paste, to do this I would suggest adding small drops at a time, due to the fact it can, quite quickly, go from looking like it needs more, to being a bit too runny. Once mixed it has quite an earthy scent. So far I have used this mask once and it took around 15 minutes to dry, while removal was easy, I used a damp muslin cloth. My skins visible appearance was not noticeably changed, however the soothing pampering feel was very evident.
The jar is an ample size and I can envisage several applications to gain the full experience of its natural soothing properties.
FoM – Revitalising Hair Serum RRP £29 for 100ml (sample size 10ml)
Enriched with phyto complex to help improve shine and hair recovery this serum can help provide shine, moisture and deep down nourishment, even encouraging new hair growth. It features key ingredients such as jojoba oil, rosehip oil, buritti oil and pashionflower oil to name a few.
I've only recently found a love for hair oils and serums, my hair reacts negatively to many oil based treatments leaving it lank and not looking great. This serum tamed my frizz, added a visible shine and restored my faith in using pre- treatment oils.
The sample size was not kind to my shaky hands, it was difficult to get the application needed. The dropper supplied with a full sized purchase will be a benefit to users. For those suffering with hair loss as I do, the sample was tricky to administer, the effects worth opting for a large size.
Both FoM products are 100% natural and for those who are wondering FoM stands for Freshness of the Morning.
The price for the box is £45, the brands were not known to me, so if browsing I may have hesitated. Now I would happily sign up to Souk Souk. Each month a customer will receive, not only the products, but also a magazine, a menu sheet, plus a handy guide to the logos and their meanings. In conclusion, Souk Souk is a beauty box , I would be confident to subscribe to in the future and would recommend readers to try out for themselves. if you fancy signing up all you need to do is click here.
