Why do people bother entering competitions when they don’t follow the rules?
Telling me you will use a stock image wont count, writing ‘great comp or great gift’ wont count (so great you don’t bother reading the post – or even how to enter right?).
How many of you who have entered disqualified yourself have a facebook full of images? Or post things on twitter all the time?
How long does it take to grab the link of one of the above and pop it down?
Thank you to the few people who have followed the entry requirements, and either posted a picture or emailed me one. Be safe in the knowledge that one of you will win! Because I do vet entries, and those who think they can get away with not following the simple rules will not be walking away with the prize.
Sorry for this rant, but it’s a trend I’ve been seeing more and more of late, and as someone who works hard to bring you competitions it actually upsets me – I’m not a huge company I don’t have 1000s of pounds like many people in the current economic situations I struggle month in, month out. I am just one person doing this because I mostly enjoy it – try and remember this when you visit and enter competitions on my blog or in fact many others.

As a fellow comper, hope I’m not one of the guilty… do try not to fill in forms robot style without reading them..
I never enter those competitions which have hundreds of thousands on enters because I never believe the people have actually truly done all the parts properly and just clicked them anyway. It’s sad that people do that.
Hear hear! I’m glad you check! Another blogger told me that she finds loads of false entries in her rafflecopter – like people who say they have tweeted/given a klout when they haven’t even got a Twitter or Klout account! I think you are wise asking people to check out a site and paste the link to their fave/chosen item as you can feel assured they have taken the time to visit the site. For someone to say – eg ‘I’ll spend my voucher on a pressie for my mum’ is very different to someone saying, ‘I love the XXX (URL) and if I won the voucher I would buy my mum that!’
I would say as you are wondering if you are your probably not.. Normally it will be the people who feel this doesn’t apply to them or don’t even read it.
I think a lot of people count on the runner not checking properly and winning by default because of that.. I guess the only way for it to ever stop is these people stop winning. (At least I can say they wont be winning here )
it’s sad that people do it.. There is no need it takes only a few minutes to do the main entry after that leave don’t bother with the others, at least then you have 1 entry rather than 0 lol.
At least I know that it will go to someone who entered properly I should probably stop letting it wind me up after all it’s them losing out not me.
I don’t blame you for getting wound up – if you make the time and effort to organise the running of a giveaway then the least the entrants should do is follow each rule accordingly. I always thought the Rafflecopter would save you time but it seems you have to still check the winner? But you must be a strong little angel as you keep carrying on!
eek, hope I haven’t been one of the annoying ones. I have a neglected blog which has had a couple of competitions on. I was naive enough to think all the entries were genuine so didn’t. After speaking to fellow bloggers I feel quite naive. I guess there are too many greedy people out there
Noooo not at all didn’t mean you lovely people to worry! Seems a wide spread problem I’ve known a few say they wont do competitions anymore due to it which is sad – sometimes I wonder about stopping myself but to be honest I do enjoy running them most of the time, I think it is a small amount spoiling it which is really sad. x
Aww thank you hun – yeah sadly so, techically people could just press enter without doing anything – I’ve done it myself, even though you can follow or like through the app it doesn’t actually make sure it’s done maybe one day it will do all those fantastic things for us! Save a lot of time lol x
AHH I hope it’s not me! I found your blog through a giveaway linkup (For the big anniversary giveaway), but am staying for your posts. You somehow feel like a long lost cousin. (Don’t be creeped out please. Somehow you feel very down to earth and I like reading what you write. I have entered the anniversary one a lot with tweets and +k’s, but I really like that owl, and am totally hoping to win.
In the state of full disclosure my facebook does not have my real name on it. It was a big family drama thing *rolls eyes*. I closed my real one and made a fake one with a different name and no actual pictures of me. It’s the only facebook account I have, I promise. If that’s a problem, message me and I’ll tell you my real name etc.
Noooooooo not you promise. I’m not creeped out – I shall take it as a complement Thank you – and so glad you like my posts, I don’t mind you having come across here for a competition – honestly I adore entering competitions myself I’ve found a lot of blogs, shops etc I adore through them – I think they are fantastic and I will NEVER count anyone who enters properly, just because they like entering competitions infact I welcome most with open arms.
I started the cufflinks competition yesterday and looking at it earlier and more were well ‘non-entries’ and it just lend to the rant. As for your facebook name we all have reasons we do things, sometimes facebook can be a bit too full on, I mean does everyone want to be contactable 24/7 and have the world know your business including many people you would rather never hear from again?
Hope that’s makes sense been a longgggggggggg day x
Things build up & then that’s when you pop! I worry sometimes about the tweeting link with rafflecopter as it very rarely let’s me paste the link in & I have to manually type it in & with all those numbers I bet I end up missing one or putting an extra number in lol! Also I can never cut & pasted on blog comments so when asked for a
Aww, I can see that it’s frustrating. Especially when you don’t have to be nice and give things away. Go and eat some of that lovely chocolate and it will be all better.
I don’t think everyone who’s entering wrong is doing it on purpose but you are right to check as unfortulney there are people that will cheat & hope you don’t check it’s meant to be enjoyable for you running your blog, reviewing & making people happy when you tell them they’ve won a prize from yourself so don’t get yourself stressed as its not the point. Sending you calming hugs
I see you on my twitter feed a lot so if something goes wrong I’d go hunting so don’t worry – I know the regulars so if someone like you was to crop up as a winner yet something was amiss with the entry I would go checking.
I have to agree I think sometimes it just an accident, done it myself in the past more than once, felt like a right fool when I’ve realised (and thats just the times I remembered later on ) – hopefully this post might make those realise and check if there entry suddenly conforms all the better they will be back in the pot.
Thank you so much I do enjoy it I have my moments though like today . I shall always be around running competitions though as I do most love it – I adore telling the winner they have won – I’m sure 1/2 the time I’m more excited than the actual winner!
When I’ve done charity raffles I get so excited telling people they have won & when I was well enough I worked in a well known gym & they had huge competitions so I know it’s a great feeling I always do a little dance when I win things myself to celebrate lol I’ll say goodnight now as I’m so tired xxxx
I feel asleep as well whoops! Hahah I used to do that (now it depends how I’m doing sadly sometimes I can’t so I do a little bum shuffle and wave my arms about going wooop wooop!) xx
As far as I know you do hun Again like I said to Shelley your one of my regulars so if anything was up with your entry I would go on the hunt and try and work out what had happened x
Your description is what my celebratory dance is like too, as I can no longer do I proper dance either due to my disabilities. Lol I can visuize it now, us both doing bum shuffles!
Haha it would be so funny! I won a perfume on twitter earlier and I was shuffling around the sofa in joy – I think only another comper would get how that is LOL xx
Some people just reel out comp after comp in a robotic manner. It’s like the facebook comps, just because some are like and share some people assume they are all the same. I think it’s rude when people cannot even be bothered to read the original post on a blog/facebook/twitter etc I confess I have struggled with Rafflecopters and the odd time still do but I do read the blog post and I do attempt to go through all the tasks. It’s the google+
Its bad but actually I do understand in some ways why some companies say no compers, at first I used to get mad – we aren’t all the same but I actually think that the companies know this but the easiest way to deal with it is to just eliminate everyone. In an ideal world everyone would only enter for things they want, actually take notice of what they are entering, but sadly I doubt that will ever happen . If I ever saw my prize up for swap or sale I would honestly be so upset. But I keep my hopes up that the majority are the gooduns and the bad eggs just a few.

Totally agree! I hate it when people just don’t follow rules. It’s like they are stupid, when really they are just lazy! xx
I guess the plus side is it gives those who do follow the rules more of a chance
