As a kid I loved cycling, I was lucky enough to grow up till the age of 13 in a cul-de-sac, with a park at the end and loads of other kids; we would spend hours outside after school and during the summer, cycling, rollerblading, or just talking. It broke my heart when I had to move and things changed, I didn’t bike so much and although I still have my good old mountain bike, it never really see’s the light of day.
So when I was contacted about Birmingham Sky Ride I was really interested to know more, it’s open to people of all different abilities causal biker or more professional you’re all welcome. How much or little you take part in is up to you as well. Birmingham’s sky ride takes place on 19th August where parks and streets will be closed of to traffic apart from bikes.
There will be activities all around the route with things like BMX displays, an art attack area and bike cafe at the University Campus, or you will find DJ and face painters at the Optima Community Association, along with family activities such as an egg and spoon race and music, you can also get your bike looked at in a bike repair area. Youngsters can meet with Go-Ride Racing the UK’s under 16 bike racing network and have a go at racing.
