I was contacted a few weeks back and asked if I would like to try one of Phil Smith’s products, as you may know Phil Smith is a well-known international hairdresser. He opened his first salon back in 1991 in Salisbury, from their things took off after opening salons across the globe and winning a multitude of awards, he launched his own range of hair care back in 2005 which has since then grown in size with plenty of choice dependent on your hair type.
I was sent the shampoo and conditioner from the Moisture Rich range aimed at people with dry and damaged hair to help it become Supple and Silky.
As I’ve said on my blog before I have fly away, greasy roots with dryish ends so this wouldn’t be one I would pick up off the shelves as I would pass it by as not being for me.
I do admit I haven’t used this every time I’ve washed my hair, I think that would have been moisture overload, but I’ve used it every other wash, and it seems to have done a good job. My ends are obviously lacking moisture (or is probably just heat damaged from the drying and straightening) as it really seems to be helping my hair it is definitely not quite so frizzy and fly away, while my waves have seemed to become more defined. It definitely also adds shine and lustre to your hair, my natural high lights of copper seem to have been more prominent though maybe that’s just my imagination.
It’s made me wonder if I need to rethink my hair routine at all. Do I need something more moisture based? Is my hair fly away because I don’t have enough moisture in my hair, but then what about my greasy roots? Anyone who’s a hair expert fancy taking a look for me and giving me your opinion?
You can grab this duo and all his other ranges from Sainsbury’s the Moisture Duo come in at £3.99 each for 250ml though according to Sainsbury’s online they are at the moment buy one get one free!
Have you tried this duo or anything else from Phil Smith, what do you think?

I’m so jealous of all the natural brands/shops you have in the UK. We’re a little behind the times in that respect. I’ll have to look and see if we can get this here. Thanks so much!!
If you ever want to do a swap for brands you can’t get in the US for ones you can’t get over here just give me a shout and a list and I can see what I can do xx
Hi Sarah! From what it sounds like, your hair is greasy at the roots and fly away because you actually don’t have enough moisture! Shampoo strips hair of its natural oils, and then your body produces an overload to compensate for it – thus greasy roots. The same concept happens with teenagers and acne – they end up over-drying their faces with acne products and it just perpetuates the cycle! You may want to use the moisturizing stuff for about a week or two and see if you see any difference!
Sounds like its a good find this one hun, & the price is good too. I tend to find these type of products are really expensive especially seeing the main ingredient is Aqua! I’ve got to go into town later this week so will, nip into Sainsbury’s to see if they have got it in stock, need to get my hair sorted before my sons wedding on the 24th, its coming every so fast now!
Hi Jamie, thank you so much! I shall keep on trying, honestly I’m awful when trying to work whats going on with my hair and body, I need an expert I think to tell me all these things! xx
I can’t believe it’s come round so quickly it only seems like the other day it was months away.. I hope you have a fantastic time – if you have a moment to pop back at anytime I would love to know how it all goes xx
Hi Sarah, Jamie is right you do need a moisturising hair care system to control your fly away hairs and grease levels. Oil balances oil in the scalp and skin, so look for a natural shampoo and conditioner that contain oils, such as argan, jojoba, coconut oil etc.
What would I do without people like you! Thank you so much I’ve tried Argan it doesn’t agree with me at all – luckily my Mum’s hair loves it so it all found a good home but I shall look out for some of the others. xx
