All About Me!

I started Life In A Break Down when I decided I wanted to stop blogging about the bad sides of my illness and the bad things in my life and focus on the good. It may feel like everything is against me sometimes but here I am, alive and kicking and sometimes having a great time – so as you can see, LIABD is a total play on words.

Over the years, LIABD has progressed into far more than I could ever imagine but in essence, it is still exactly as it was when I started – I’m still blogging because I want to, not because I have to. I love it and it helps me. I will occasionally rant or talk about things I don’t find great and say things that just need to be said but you will mostly find this blog to be a positive place.

I’ve been lucky to work with some incredible people and some amazing brands over the last seven years and am totally blessed that I can count some of them as my friends now. Every day brings something new, a new challenge, a new friend, a new adventure.

Since its 2010 inception, LIABD has helped me to branch out in a number of different ways. For instance, the Facebook group Official UK Bloggers was started in 2013 as a safe space for UK Bloggers to talk about all things blogging or even non-blogging related, regardless of genre. I found that most other Facebook groups were niche-specific so wanted to create something all UK Bloggers could join. That too has grown over the years – we have a website, a Twitter account where we help to promote your content and even an Instagram account, all dedicated to enabling the fabulous bloggers of the UK to come together.

In 2018 I joined with Rebecca from Futures and start a journey we have been talking about for many years, one which sees us opening our joint blog UK Lifestyle Hub. While I also opened Simply Saving as a place to share my history with debt and some money-saving tips.

But who am I, the blogger behind the screen, the person behind the words?

FullSizeRender

I’m Sarah, a 30 something from the Midlands in the UK with my amazing partner Ash.

I suffer from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, hypermobility syndrome, keratoconus and a number of mental health issues which I have previously discussed on the blog. Please do check those posts out.

Ash AKA Morphman.

morphman

Ash is Morphman after this crazy review. You’ll never see his real face on the blog.

Gone but Never Forgotten.

Sally

2001 – 26/04/2019 – Play well at Rainbow Bridge Sweet Sal.

Sally – came to me as a rescue dog. She loved me from the start but I was a little warier. However, she soon won me over. My doggy soul mate, my shadow and has seen me through some of the toughest times in my life, saving it on multiple occasions. A mixed breed, she lived to the ripe old age of 18, having been in my life for 13.

Dobby and Sock

Dobby and Sock came from the rescue centre at Pets At Home – Sock, the brown and white one, is the more dominant pig whilst Dobby is more confident with humans and is more dominant when it comes to time for food!

Sadly we lost Dobby on 8th August 2018 and Sock on the 5th December 2020.

Robbie

Robbie – was in the rescue space at the local Pets At Home for a long time. We often stood and talked to him whilst picking up supplies. We soon gave in and went and got him – he was a crazy hamster, head diving off of his platform or spinning off his flying saucer. He sadly passed away on 23rd April 2013 and is running free on Rainbow Bridge, I’m sure.

Artie

Artie was the only hamster in the pet shop that day. I remember the assistant speaking about how he was cute but deformed. Of course, with that said he had to be mine. He was the interior designer of the flat and often gave his Artie mansion a daily makeover. He sadly passed away on the 23rd of June 2013 and is also running free at Rainbow Bridge.

I really enjoy your blog. I came here from comping, but I stay for your lovely articles. I think your blog is the first I’ve really enjoyed 😊 I’m also an animal lover but only have the one cat currently (as we rent 😞) It’s really refreshing to read someone writing so honestly about dealing with mental health, and dealing with disabilities.

Hi! I’m also a blogger with keratoconus. It’s absolutely annoying. I’m saving up for a corneal transplant in my left eye.

Good luck with your transplant, I've heard they can really help! I'm still waiting to see if crosslinking will help, my doctor thinks my progression may have slowed which means I could do without it. If you ever need to chat just drop me an email.

i initially came over to enter a competition but i have read through alot of areas on yr blog you are very inspirational and take my hat off to you for having such a blog which will potentially inspire others to face personal issues and mental health issues which are becoming increasingly common or maybe its more that people are willing to talk about it and its thanks to people like yourself who help others to address this. I am also an animal lover a mad cat woman 3 cats and a puppy who thinks she is a cat, they drive me crazy but wouldnt have it any other way :-)

Aww thank you so much - I am sorry for my delay in replying, it's been my birthday this week and I've been visiting family, I'm not normally this bad. I think in some ways we are becoming more open about the issues we face, in the hopes of making it less of a taboo.

Haha that is the best thing about animals isn't it - they are crazy and drive you up the wall but you just can't imagine life without that bit. x
