Add some summeriness to your tailoring; here’s how

Make hay whilst the sun shines, but do it in style. Just because you have to hit the office doesn’t mean you need to dress all moodily and gloomy; inject some summeriness into your outfit with these simple tips.
Colour blocking
This summer fashion revolves around colour. From bright neons through to pretty pastel every part of the colour wheel gets a look in. Adding colour to your tailored office wear is surprisingly easy, but you will need be bold and confident. Tailored suits come in all shades of the rainbow this summer, from bright fuchsia and coral through to soft mint and lilac. You may want to dabble with pastel first, but we say skip the pastel and go straight to the brights. All over pastel we leave you looking like an ice cream, but bright shades show confidence and style. Next has a great selection of coloured tailored suits; we particularly like the Coral Slub Peplum Jacket, £49 and matching pencil skirt, £35. The vivid shade is warm but chic. The shape too oozes sophistication too. Add some nude heels and a pastel coloured vest and this look is good to go.

Dress to impress
Ditch the trousers and put aside the pencil skirt, a dress is the only way to impress in the office this summer. Tailored dresses are stylish, feminine and shapely; they can help create curves where there aren’t any and hide areas you are less fond of. Look for classic cuts such as shifts and wrap dresses, work with warm tones and all over colour and don’t use busy patterns, as they may be a little distracting. Our top pick is the Linen Blend Colour Block Dress, £30 from Next. The lightweight linen mix material will help you keep your cool and the delicate lemon colour will bring sunshine into the office.

Wear your hair down
Summer breezes and (hopefully) a lack of rain mean you can let your hair flow free for summer. Tight buns and topknots look great, but inject some surfer girl beach style into your tailored look with loose waves or beachy curls. Kate Hudson shows how its done on Marie Claire.

  1. Great idea’s. I love all the colours in spring & summer. Its so much better than the dowdy browns & blacks we all wear in cold winter.

  2. Great advice, I’m a huge fan of colour blocking it’s a great trend for the summer. Sometimes it’s difficult finding smart office wear that can also fit in with the summer trends. I bought myself a few pink and blue shirts from Austin Reed last month and they are great, I can dress smartly with a bit of colour.
